Summary Part 1

Part 1 Summary
Trash is a book written by Andy Mulligan It is a story about 3 boys named Raphael, Rat and Gardo The story is set in dumpsite. The story begins when Raphael finds a bag. While he working at the dumpsite.Inside the bag is a wallet with 1100 peso, map, key,a picture of a girl and a license of José Angelico .

Then after this the police comed to the dumpsite and asked the trash pickers including Raphael Gardo and there family.the police asked if they’ve seen a bag and then Raphael's aunty spoke up that raphael found something. After that the boys Raphael, Rat and Gardo hide the bag. Then Rat remembered that the keys looks like the one in the train station, so they go to the station , when they reached the station they keep finding it till they finnally found it there was a package and a piece of paper with codes on them.what is the code for ? the mystery of the story is that in every chapter they mention about José Angelico ,the clues that have been revealed are the map the codes the license and the letter .i wonder what is inside  the letter ?

One of the themes in Trash is Police Corruption and violence.  An example of this is a quote from Gardo “If the police think you’ve got something, they won’t stop ‘till they’ve got it from you” page 35. This means that everyone in Behala is afraid of the things they know, because they know that the police can be corrupted and violent.  Another example is from Gardo “When the police get mean, you don’t want to be around.” page 29 this means that the police would boss you around only because you are poor, and that without money you have no protection at all.

The second theme of the book is the dangers of poverty.  An example of this is a quote from Gardo “i knew the dangerous bit was going to be the locker” (page 40) this means that they feel that they’re doing a illegal thing cause people don’t usually see boys like Raphael , Gardo or Rat opening a luggage locker.Another example is from Raphael “it wouldn’t have to be a police. It would be anyone who noticed. They’d assume right away that we were thieving, and thieving boys get no mercy from anyone” (page 40) this means that other people can think and tell to the police that they are thieving cause other people then poor kids have more advantage of making the police thinks they’re thieves.
